California Assemblymember James C. Ramos (D-Highland) and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) formed the first ever California Native American Legislative Caucus. Ramos (Serrano/Cahuilla), the first California Indian legislator in the state’s 170-year history, chairs the group. He has led bills and actions addressing Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, state consultation with tribes, removing offensive place names, suicide prevention, fentanyl awareness, California Indian Education, and other issues of high priority to Native wellness.
